World Record Yellowfin Tuna Off The Rocks On Spin 230 lb

Dennis Verreet is on of those guys that every land based game fisherman is wanting to be right now.
Not only is he an all round nice guy, he is an amazing fisherman who has just beaten his own world record yellow fin tuna from the shore. the tuna comes in at an astonishing 230Lb. And as if that wasn't hard enough it was done on spin tackle. the fight took around 3.5 hours and the fish was gaffed by his wife. Amazing.

When Dutch super-trawler The Margiris was given the go-ahead to catch millions of dollars worth of fish in Australian waters, her owners didn't realise they were sailing straight into a bureaucratic nightmare.

This report charts the extraordinary course of events that culminated in the world's second largest trawler being left stranded and impotent thousands of miles from her native Holland. The Margiris' owners were assured by Australia that they had permission to fish its seas. "Literally what they said was, we will back you up no matter what happens, if you follow the rules. And we said we can accept that of course". But what the ship's owners hadn't counted on was a perfect storm of political protest that brought environmental groups and recreational fishers together in a campaign that even threatened to destabilise the Australian government. In a bold move, the government sided with the people and anchored the super trawler for good. "We've got no idea what the rules are now!" exclaims ship owner, Gerry Geen. So was this democracy in action, or political incompetence?

MOHAMMED JASSIM AL-KUWARI

One man who is fast becoming a legend in blue water hunting is Mohammed Jassim Al Kuwari.

He has now become known as MJK, for his incredible stone shots on insane fish.

These epic stone shots were made famous in Mohammed’s legendary film Going East and have quickly become known as ‘MJK’s , the name seems to have stuck.

At certain times of the year his local waters teem with huge shoals of fish all shapes and sizes. With these shoals come good numbers of big pelagics, the perfect environment for Mohammed to hone his skill as an expert marksman.

Between seasons and when preparing for trips Mohammed can be found experimenting and pushing his gear and skill levels to the max. It is this dedication and attention to detail that is driven by an unquenchable desire that makes Mohammed a man worthy of standing with the Legends of spearfishing.

Back at his home in Qatar Mohammed has been instrumental in the development of spearfishing in the gulf, through sharing the sport with other Spearo’s and showing them his hunting techniques, his spearfishing films with the latest being One Fish Going East and his spearfishing shop Qatarsub which connects him even more so to the local spearfishing community.

He often travels abroad to seminars and conventions with the mission of learning everything he can from well known spearfisherman. He has played an instrumental role in inspiring and encouraging spearfishing in Qatar.

The goal for him however is not just to shoot amazing fish, Mohammed has an incredible desire to document in the best way possible each and every adventure, its his way of sharing in what is essentially a very personal journey of exploration and adventure for him.

Over the years Mohammed has stayed on the cutting edge of spearfishing cinematography. Pioneering and perfecting this art that has made him and his films famous world wide.
